Son of Richard William & Mary (Sutcliffe) Bagot. His father was a silk merchant. Emigrated to the US in 1854. Lived in New York until 1858 when he located in Elk Rapids. Worked for Dexter & Noble lumber company until 1871. Owned a grocery and drug business 1871-1881. In 1891, he joined the Elk Rapids Savings Bank and became a cashier. In 1904, he became its president. Elected Antrim County clerk and registrar in 1864, 1865, 1868 and 1870. Served as Antrim County treasurer. Member of the Masons & Knights Templar
