Biographical Sketch:
Son of Samuel and Margaret (Porter) Crippen. Samuel died soon after locating the family in Michigan. William as a day laborer before becoming a farmer.He was an agricultural implements dealer. After the Civil War, he had a harness business for 18 months before returning to farming. He farmed in Grand Traverse County. Served as Supervisor of Excelsior twp, 2 years. He returned to Milford in 1882; elected Supervisor of Milford twp, 1889; Justice of the Peace and President of the Village of Milford. Salesman of agricultural implements in Milford at time of election. At 19, he enlisted as a private in Company I, Michigan 22nd Infantry, 8/18/1862; mustered out in 1865. Member of the GAR
