Elected 4 times to the Michigan Legislature; served as Speaker of the House 3 terms. Instumental in the estab. of the Agricultural College in Lansing. Died in office. Origunally interred in a private/family graveyard in Livingston Co.; reinterred at Old Village Cemetery, Brighton, MI.
