Son of John & Ellen (Steward or Stewart) Barry; grew up in VT. In charge of an academy in Georgia, VT while studying law. Moved to White Pigeon, MI, 1831. Engaged in mercantile business in Constantine and served as Justice of the Peace 1831-1835.

Notable Facts:
A member of the 1st MI Constitutional Convention. Michigan governor 1842-46 & 180-52. Capt. in the VT militia. Date of death in VChapamn gives birthplace as Amherst, NH & middle name as Steward. Lanman says: born in VT middle name Stewart. Vexler death is 1/14/1870; also this date in MIBiog.
