Biographical Sketch:
Son of Catherine Putz. He came to Masonville and Escanaba, MI, in 1871, where he was engaged in lumbering for 2 years before going to work for the C & N. W. Railway for 3 years. and in 1876 located on a farm at Stephenson, Menominee county. He sold the farm in 1916 and moved to the village of Stephenson where he conducted a successful real estate business until he retired ten years before his death. He served as a school inspector, a township supervisor (14 years) and a member of the board of education 20 years. He was appointed a member of the State Board of Agriculture, by Governor Warner in 1906 and served until 1912. He was a justice of the peace in Stephenson in 1940.
Notable Facts:
He was a delegate to the constitutional convention of 1907-1908. Would have turned 102 on his next birthday. The Menominee County Board of Supervisors gave him a copy of the resolution they passed honoring him on his 100th birthday for his many years of public service: he helped his community grow from a railroad whistle stop to the county's second largest community.
