Biographical Sketch:
Of German ancestry. Son of Peter and Sarah (Barnhart) Shisler. He taught school 5 years and spent several years in the mercantile business. He farmed until 1869, when he moved to Michigan. He was director 18 years; treasurer of the Citizens' Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Kent, Allegan and Ottawa Counties 4 years and one of the school directors 6 years; was one of the promoters of the Caledonia Union Fair Association and president 7 years; has also held several official positions in his township.

Notable Facts:
His ancestors emigrated from Germany in October, 1690, and located in Lancaster County, PA. 1897 Manual says he was born in Ontario; 1900 US Census says New York; 1910 says Can English.
