Biographical Sketch:
Son of Garrett and Julia A. (Saunders) Van Camp. He enlisted, as a private, in Co. A, 145th Pennsylvania Volunteers, August, 1862. He worked the oil fields of Pennsylvania for a year before moving to Michigan in April 1866. He cleared land to farm near Benton Harbor. He served as township supervisor [12 years], chair of the board of supervisors and Berrien County treasurer [1883-87]. He was chairman of the building committee in charge of the construction of the new county buildings built around 1896. Member of the GAR and Odd Fellows.

Notable Facts:
Wounded at Gettysburg 7/2/1863 and discharged from the hospital in Philadelphia, 11/22/1963.
