Irish descent. Taught in rural schools for several years; superintendent of schools, Hermansville, four years; engaged in the life insurance business; held postmastership eight years, under the Wilson administration and was Meyer Township supervisor. He was appointed as collector of customs by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1934 and retired in 1953.
