Located in Kalamazoo County, 1843. Enlisted in Company F, 8th Michigan Infantry, 9/17/1861 as first sergeant. Promoted to lieutenant colonel by the end of the Civil War. Fought in the battle of the Wilderness. Wounded at battles of James Island and Weldon Railroad. Served as village treasurer, clerk and 2nd ward supervisor of Kalamazoo. Served as Kalamazoo County sheriff. Served as clerk in U.S. Dept. of War and in the Internal Revenue Service.
