He moved to Michigan in 1867. He was with the trades union movement and was a member of Carpenters' Union No. 10, of Detroit. He served as its president and as recording secretary for several terms. He was also delegate to the biennial convention of the brotherhood of carpenters; represented the International organization of carpenters in the conventions of the American Federation of Labor at St.Louis, Boston, and Detroit. He was president of the council of trades and labor unions of Detroit in 1887, and represented that body as a delegate to the State Federation of Labor at its organization in Lansing in 1889. He was livin in Gardena, CA in 1910
