Son of Thomas & Nancy (Lang) Johnson. Enlisted at 15 in Co. H, 43rd Ohio Volunteer Veterans, assigned to the 16th Army Corps, 4th Div. & later the 1st Div, 17th Army Corps, at age 15. Returned to Lorain, OH when discharged. Moved to Saginaw, MI, 1869, to work in the mills for 5 years. Moved to Caseville to work as a scaler and shipper of salt & lumber. Served as township clerk & 2 yrs as deputy sheriff.
