Biographical Sketch:
Son of Salomon and Paulina (Travis) Leach. [Stepson of Rev. J.B. McKinney]. He moved to Elkland Township, Tuscola Co., MI, in 1854, where he worked at lumbering winters and clearing land summers until the spring of 1864. He enlisted in the Union army and served in the 23d and 28th regiments, Michigan Volunteer Infantry, until 1866. After discharge from the Union Army, he engaged in scaling logs, lumbering, clearing land, farming and surveying. In 1877, he went to Colorado, New Mexico and Texas, and for 8 years gave his attention to surveying and cattle ranching. After the death of his first wife, in Texas, he returned to Tuscola Co., MI in 1885 and bought a farm in Ellington Township. He was elected County Surveyor of Tuscola County, served as Supervisor of Elkland Township [6 terms] and as Supervisor of Ellington Township. [2 terms].

Notable Facts:
His farm was leveled by a tornado in 1905 and he rebuilt it. Died of pneumonia and senility
