Biographical Sketch:
Emigrated with his parents, Jacob and Margaret (Duncan) Orth, around 1849. He grew up on a farm in Wayne County, MI. At 13, he went to work as a shoemaker in Forestville, Huron County until about 1870 when he moved to AuSable. He opened shoe stores in AuSable, Oscoda and Saint Ignace and an opera house block. He served as supervisor [3 terms], and as township and village treasurer, superintendent of the poor several terms, village councilman, village trustee [1872-73]village marshal [1878-79] and deputy sheriff.

Notable Facts:
Died of septic endocarditis.
