Biographical Sketch:
Son of John PerkinsHe emigrated to America in 1865 and headed for the copper regions of Michigan. He worked in the copper mines for 3 years, then moved to Marquette County and worked as a miner for 3 years. He then became a contractor, taking contracts from mining companies to mine certain portions of mines. In 1873, he became mining captain of the Saginaw mine until 1879, when he moved to the Menominee Range and took the position of mining superintendent of the Perkins mine, which he held until the Saginaw mining company released its claim on the said Perkins mine, in the fall of 1886, when he became proprietor of the mine and continued mining ore from the property. The load gave out on the Perkins mine in 1883 and Perkins became a farmer. Retired from active live in1916.
