Biographical Sketch:
Son of Dr. James J. and Rachel A. (Griffith) St. Clair. He came to Marquette, MI, with his father in 1851. His father died in 1861 when Eugene was 15. The family moved to Albion, NY where he clerked in a store until 1866 when he moved back to Marquette, MI. There he engaged in the mining business in all capacities. For several years he was the paymaster for Washington and Republic Iron Co. With his brother, he developed mine properties and, in 1877, organized the Bank of Ishpeming. He served as township treasurer of Ely Township from 1868-73. He mining had interests in Minnesota and was president of the Section 30 Mercantile Company there..
