American parents of Scotch-Irish descent. Son of Fred Hurd. and Katherine R.(O'Kelly) Orr. He practiced la in Caro until 1909 when he was appointed actuary for state insurance department. In 1910, he became deputy of the department for 5 years. He resigned to become manager of the Columbian National Fire Insurance Co. of Detroit. In 1919, he left the position to practice law. He was living in Ellington, MI in 1930
