He was the superintendent of the Cadillac, Dansville, Chelsea and Stockbridge union schools, was for 2 years president of the Washtenaw County Teachers' Association, and member of the Ingham County Board of School Examiners. He had a hardware and furniture business at Stockbridge, Ingham County, MI at the time of his election to the House.
