Of German descent. Son of William and Caroline (VanScoy) Heck. He worked his way through school. Admitted to practice law in Indiana, May 1891. Returned to the family farm for 2 years after graduation. He moved to Lansing in 1893 to practice law. Member of the Patrons of Husbandry from 1883; a Mason and an Odd Fellow

Notable Facts:
Son-in-law of Rep. Rowland S. VanScoy. Died as a result of being struck by a car. Death certificate gives place of burial/removal as 'Essex Center' which may mean the Sowle Cemetery on Essex Center Rd.
