Biographical Sketch:
He came to this country with his parents in 1849, locating in Norwalk, Huron County, OH. He attended school in that City until the Civil War broke out, when he enlisted in the summer of 1861, in Co. F, 3d O.V.C. Upon the expiration of his term he re-enlisted in Co. F, 2d O.V.C., serving until 1865, and was discharged. He returned to Norwalk, worked in the railroad shop for three years, and then moved to Michigan, locating in Berlin, Ionia County, on a piece of wild land. Michigan Biographies Volume 2 gives his birth date as November 18, 1844. Find-a-Grave website uses January 21, 1844 as date of birth and April 5, 1905 as date of death at the age of 77 years. The inscription on his tombstone reads Company F 2nd Ohio Cav Note: 77 yrs; The application for Military Headstone gives his date of death as March 6, 1922.
