Biographical Sketch:
Of German ancestry. Son of George M. and Margaret Barbara (Baukner) Schmidt. In 1884, at 18, he engaged in handling meats, continuing in that business 7 years, when, upon the death of his father, in 1891, he succeeded him in the real estate business. He was a member of the real estate firm of Schmidt & Deindorfer, Saginaw. He had an interest in farming and owned several farms, and a forty acre " truck " garden. He was elected secretary of the Hemmeter Cigar Company of Detroit, and president of the Crescent Cheese and Butter Manufacturing Company of Saginaw. He served his constituents of the 12th ward 2 terms in the city council, holding the position of chairman of the finance and auditing committee in that body for 4 years.
Notable Facts:
His seat was contested by is opponent, William E. Gardner, but a committee found in Schmidt's favor.
Died of diabetes mellitus. and myocarditis
