Biographical Sketch:
He came to Michigan with his parents, Curtis and Hannah (Holt) Porter, at the age of 15, settling in Walker Township, Kent County, remaining there until 1861. At 29, he moved to Chester in Ottawa County. He served as county treasurer in 1868 and as justice of the peace for 4 years and supervisor for 17 years.
