Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish parentage. Son of James and Jennie (Lochead) Taylor. He was raised on a farm. His father died when Robert was 18; as the eldest son, he took over the farm briefly, entering the University of Michigan at 22. He studied for 3 years then went into business in Almont for 3 years. At that point, he began studying law. He was admitted to the bar in 1869 and practiced in Almont. He was elected register of deeds in 1872, and moved to Lapeer. He was elected county prosecutor in 1880 for 2 years.
