Biographical Sketch:
Son of John and Harriet (Raymond) Wilkinson. His mother died when he was 2. He was elected treasurer of the township in 1861; the last of August of the same year enlisted as a private in company G, Third Ohio Cavalry, was appointed first duty sergeant, then promoted to orderly sergeant. Was discharged from the service in February, 1863, for disability caused by disease contracted in the service. In the fall of same year moved to Jamestown, Ottawa County, MI. In the spring of 1864, he was elected school inspector of the township, and the following spring was elected supervisor. In the fall of 1876, on account of poor health, rented his farm and engaged in the mercantile business at Jamestown Center. In the winter of 1880, sold his store and farm, and the following spring moved to Antrim county, purchased a farm near Eastport. In the spring of 1881, he was elected supervisor. He was president of the Antrim County Agricultural society for several years. He was colonel of the Antrim County Soldiers and Sailors ' Association and a director of the Grand Traverse, Antrim and Leelanau County Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Ordained as a Baptist minister after leaving office.
