Biographical Sketch:
Descended from Highland Scots, Duncan and Ann (Keith) McEachern. He emigrated with his parents, when age 8, in 1852. At 26, he became involved in the lumber interests of Lambton Co., ON. He had a stave factory in Waterford, ON, that was destroyed by fire in 1870. Soon after, he purchased a sawmill in Dutton that he operated until he moved to Kentucky in 1879, where h purchased black walnut timber. He went to the Upper Peninsula in 1880, dealing with cedar ties and pine logs on St. Joseph Island. The following year he established his home in Ozark, where for 3 years he held the position of woods foreman in the plant of the Martell Furnace Company. Moved to Newton Twp, Mackinac County, MI in 1881 to homestead and raised cattle. He was elected Newton Township clerk in 1886, later also serving as township treasurer. Member of the Masons, Knights Templar and the Elks.
