Biographical Sketch:
Son of George and Elizabeth (Hopkins) Eaton. He enlisted in 1862, with the New York battery. He came to Michigan in 1867 and was station agent at Wheatland, Calhoun Co. before moving to Mattawan. He ws briefly, principal of the school until 1871 when he ventured into mercantile pursuits until 1875. In 1875, he went to work for the Michigan Central Railroad as a telegraph operator and station agent. From 1885-89 he operated a general store. In 1889, he purchased a half interest in the journal, True Northerner, and was its editor until 1891. Adjutant General of Michigan, 1893-95; chosen department commander of the GAR in 1891.

Notable Facts:
He died suddenly at the funeral of Mr. Green Pack, a wealthy lumberman. Eaton's remains were lain in state in the Capitol.
