Biographical Sketch:
Son of James [or Patrick] and Bridget (Coffe or Cuff) Gibbons. Emigrated from Ireland in 1848, landing in Mobile, AL, went to Nashville, TN where he helped build their State House [1 year]. He spent 3 years in Bridgeport, AL, building the Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad bridge across the Tennessee River. Came to Michigan around 1852 and bought a farm near Port Huron. He was one of the pioneers of Burtchville [later Grant] Township. Member of the Saint Clair County pioneer society. He was a member and president of the Brockway Center Agricultural Society , also president and stockholder in the Lakeview cheese factory. Served as highway commissioner and school director several years; and justice of the peace.
