6th of 9 children of John & Ann (Newton) Adams, who were born in Chestershire, England & Co. Sligo, Ireland respectively. Began farming in Chippewa Co., MI, 1879 after several yrs in Huron Co., Ont. Original farm subdivided into city lots forming a large section of what is now downtown Sault Ste. Marie (SSM); on the Bd of Ed. for SSM, MI for 10 years. Part of Lake Superior Company that obtained the right of way for the power canal there. Involved in early banking of the city. Member of the Masons; Knights Templar
