Biographical Sketch:
6th of 9 children of John & Ann (Newton) Adams, who were born in Chestershire, England & Co. Sligo, Ireland respectively. Emigrated and began farming in Chippewa Co., MI, 1879 after several yrs in Huron Co., Ont. Original farm subdivided into city lots forming a large section of what is now downtown Sault Ste. Marie (SSM). After farming for a time, he went into real estate and became interested in mercantile and banking business. He was on the Board of Education for SSM, MI for 10 years. Part of Lake Superior Company that obtained the right of way for the power canal there. Involved in early banking of the city. Member of the Masons and Knights Templar.
