Biographical Sketch:
Ancestors came from England in 1637 and settled in Salem, MA. Son of Mark and Ruxby (Conant). He was superintendent of the marble quarries in Gash Dorset, VT for many years. Moved to Detroit in 1882 to superintend the Producers' Marble Co.'s Michigan and Ohio sales. In 1888, he resigned and purchased an interest in a cut stone business. Stone from his works were used in many of the better buildings of Detroit. Served as Justice of the Peace and a member of the Detroit city council. He was elected alderman in 1892 and served 3 terms. He retired in 1901. He was a member of the Masons.
