Biographical Sketch:
Of Irish and English ancestry. Son of Patrick H. and Mary (Ashton) Byrns. When 8 years of age, he moved with his parents to Port Henry, NY. He moved to Michigan when 18 and located in Ishpeming where, after an experience of several years as bookkeeper, and manager of different lumber concerns, he purchased and successfully conducted a retail lumber business for a period of 2 years. He engaged with the Wisconsin Land & Lumber Company of Hermansville, MI, as traveling salesman for nearly four years. He was a member of Modern Woodmen of America; Ancient Order of United Workmen; Royal Arcanum; Maccabees; Elks; Knights of Columbus; and Foresters.
