Son of Albert and Anna Zak, Austrian immigrants. He was mayor of Hamtramck 1952-1963, 1974-1975. He also served as city clerk. He was a member of Wayne County Board of Commissioners and Civil Service Commission. Member of the Catholic Youth Organization, St. Florian's Ushers Club, St. Florian's Young Men, Polish National Alliance, Z.P.R.K., Guardian Angel Home, St. Florian Holy Name Society, Hamtramck Goodfellows.
