Biographical Sketch:
Son of Joshua Champlin and Hannah (Howard) Champlin. He was reared on a farm until about eighteen years of age, when he became a clerk in the store of Nathan Munro, at Elbridge, N. Y. He came to Michgian in 1824, settling in Tecumseh for 2 years before returning to New York. In 1830, he returned to Tecumseh for 4 years. He opened a mercantile in Jonesville in 1834. He was living in Scipio twp in 1850. He retired from business in 1851. He also had a farm east of Jonesville. He served as school inspector and road master, 1835; justice, 1838; postmaster from 1840-44; and supervisor in 1845 and 1852 . He was a member of the association of Whig adherants that published the Jonesville Expositor in the 1840s.

Notable Facts:
Served as a Major under Gen. Joseph Brown in the Black Hawk War for several months. Served in both chambers.
