Son of Thomas and Elvira (Metcalf) Aplin. Located in Flint, 1848-56. Enlisted in Company C, 16th Michigan Infantry, 7/3/1861. Discharged 7/16/1865 as second lieutenant. Postmaster of West Bay City, 11/1869-6/1886, 10/1898-6/1902. Served as township clerk for three years and township treasurer for three years. Delegate to Republican National Convention, 1884. State Auditor General, 1887-90. Established first electric railway in West Bay City and served as general mangaer until 1891. Established Wenona Beach Resort. High Court Inspector, Independent Order of Foresters. Elected to U.S. House of Representatives to fill vacancy caused by the death of Rousseau O. Crump, serving 10/15/1901-3/3/1903. Member of the Masons, Knights of Pythias, National Union, Royal Arcanum, Order of Foresters, and G.A.R.
