Biographical Sketch:
When 21 he came to Jonesville MI to study law. Gave up study of law to help his father on a farm near Battle Creek. He later purchased a farm near Battle Creek. He was professor of bookkeeping and penmanship, Grand River Institute, 1872-73. Located in Jonesville, 1873. Served as township supervisor, 1891-92. Mayor of Battle Creek, 1898-99. Postmaster of Battle Creek, 1899-1907 (1917 Manual says 1906-11914). Founding vice president, Historical Society of Battle Creek, 1916. Member of Knights of Phytias since 1879. He attended every session of the Grand Lodge since 1880, and passed the chairs, from the position of Outer Guard to Grand Chancellor. He, for several years, held the position of Grand Keeper of Records and Seals, and also held the position of Supreme Representative to the Supreme Lodge. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, of the Royal Arcanum and of the Elks.
