Enlisted in Company D, 3rd NY Cavalry, 1861. Discharged after wounds suffered in a duel with a Confederate soldier of 2nd NC Cavalry, 1864. Worked for Empire Agricultural Works, Cobleskill, NY, 1866-73. Located in Kalamazoo, c. 1873. Postmaster of Kalamazoo, 1878-82. Served in U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Pensions as clerk, special examiner and assistant to board of appeals, 1882-88. Returned to Kalamazoo as pension claim agent, 1888. Member, Michigan House of Representatives, 1895-98.
