Attended common schools winters; at the age of seventeen he entered Michigan Union College (now Adrian) where he spent two years, and State Normal School (now EMU).

Biographical Sketch:
Came to Michigan with his parents in 1837, settled on a farm in Cambridge, Lenawee County, where he spent his early life. After his military service he was engaged in teaching school and was Principal, Reed City Union School, 1873-74. From 1874 until about 1893 he was engaged in the drug business in Reed City. Served as township treasurer and Reed City Schools trustee. Member, Michigan House of Representatives Osceola District, 1895-96.

Notable Facts:
Taken prisoner at Spottsylvania Court House, 5/12/1864. Transferred to Andersonville, GA and Florence, SC until escaping 2/22/1865.
