Located in Aurora, IL, 1853-86. Began clerking Hawley & Otis dry goods in 1860 and became one of the members in 1870. In 1886, he sold out and moved to Casco Township, Allegan County. Served as city treasurer of Aurora, IL and Casco Township supervisor for 3 terms [1890-93].
