Biographical Sketch:
Son of Lemuel P. and Mariah J. Swift. His ancestors were pioneers of the county, his grandfather and father having moved from New York State and settled in Bellevue township in March, 1839. When but 6 years of age Mr. Swift moved with his parents to the adjoining township of Kalamo and settled upon the farm which he later owned. He taught school several winters, and worked upon his father's farm summers until, at the age of 21, he began farming for himself. He served as superintendent of schools and school inspector for his township. He was living in Kansas in 1900.
