Biographical Sketch:
When young he moved to Saratoga County, NY, studied surveying, surveyed 100,000 acres of land in Genesee and Alleghany counties in 1807, and in 1809 helped lay out the cities of Lockport, Brockport and Buffalo, NY. He settled at Saline,MI, in 1824. He laid out the State road from Detroit to Pontiac in 1825, was chief surveyor of the military road from Detroit to Chicago, and from that time until 1856, in the employ of the Government, surveyed 75 townships in Michigan, and resurveyed 45. He was Postmaster of Saline 10 years and Justice 12 years.

Notable Facts:
At the time of his death he was the oldest living Knight Templar in the United States, having taken that degree in 1815. He officiated at the laying of the corner stone of the old Capitol at Detroit in 1823, and was present at the laying of the corner stone of the new capitol in 1873.
