Biographical Sketch:
Of Swedish descent. Son of Gustav and Anna (Hugdahl) Engstrom. He was once connected with lumber interests through the Oval Wood Dish Co., Motor Vehicle Divison of the Department of State, Traverse City Depositor's Corp., Grand Traverse Board of Supervisors, Chamber of Commerce as president and director, First Peoples State Bank and finance commissioner of Traverse City; owner of an insurance agency, chairman of the Allocation Board of Grand Ttaverse County, secretary of the Northwestern Michigan Fair Association, president of the Board of Education and director of the Traverse City State Bank; member of the Masons, B.P.O.E. Elks, Kiwanis Club. He was honored as the only person whose name was given to a state institution 's major facility during his lifetime, in 1969, at the Traverse City State Hospital, the new facility for children named as the Arnell Engstrom School .
