Biographical Sketch:
Scotch-Irish ancestry. His father, Alex Gillespie, was born in Ireland; mother, Sarah, in Quebec, Canada. In 1904, he took over 160-acre farm of his father, bought the farm in 1916 and in 1932 added 80 acres on the east. [His son, John, operates the farm specializing in beans as cash crop.] He served as director of Gaines Telephone Co. & the Flushing Land Bank & president of the Gaines school board. Was agent for the State Farm Insurance Co. of Bloomington, IL.
Member of the Masons, Farm Bureau & National Grange.
