Biographical Sketch:
Of English descent. Son of James and Esther (Hoatling or Houghtailing) Town.
He was a member of the Grange; the Masons; Eastern Star; Oddfellows; Woodmen and Gleaner lodges. He served as township clerk, treasurer and supervisor, and was chairman of the county board of supervisors during 1918. Influenced the establishment of the Children's Institute in Ann Arbor; a recognized authority on child welfare & training.

Died in office in 1942 of pancreatic cancer and bowel obstruction.
