Biographical Sketch:
Born on a farm in Chippewa Co., MI near the Sault. Farmed until 1943; Treasurer of Soo Twp in 1923 & 1924; co. supervisor 1925-1931. Manager of the Chippewa Co. Farm Bureau 1943-1946; engaged in the retail plumbing and heating business in Sault Ste. Marie, 1946; served on the Council of State Government, State Planning Commission, State Crime Commission, and Soo Locks Centennial Commission. He was a member of the K. of P., Chippewa county Pomona grange, Pine Grove grange and of the Sault Saint Marie Lions Club.
Notable Facts:
speaker pro tempore and Republican floor leader 1943-1946 & as speaker 1947-1952 in the state House. Elected to 6 succeeding Congresses 1953-1965
After his marriage, farmed his father's 160 acre farm which had been homesteaded by his grandfather in 1878.

1947,1949 & 1951 Manuals state he & his family are members of the Presbyterian church.
