Biographical Sketch:
Son of Gottlieb and Margaret (Gmahling) Hartman. He entered the railroad business in 1903 and held several official positions, resigning as assistant superintendent of the Copper Range Railroad in 1913 to engage in the real estate business. He served 4 terms as mayor of Houghton and 6 terms as supervisor of Portage Township; and as Michigan Deputy Auditor General. He was again elected mayor of Houghton in 1926 and 1928. Associated with Masonic orders; the Elks; Eagles; and Knights of Pythias.
