Biographical Sketch:
Son of Eben and Laura (Gilson, Pullen) Humphrey. Served in Co.C,26th Ohio Infantry during the Civil War. He enlisted on 2/27/1864, severely wounded 6/18/1864 at Kenesaw Mountain; he recovered and participated in the Hood campaign and Sherman's Army of Observation in Texas. He moved to Michigan in 1869. He taught 6 years in the village of Dorr, 10 in Wayland. He was superintendent of schools in Holland, MI for 1 year and was teacher of pedagogy at Hope College for 1 year. After 1 year running schools in Ottawa county , he served 6 as School Commissioner of Allegan County. He conducted summer normal classes at Hope College for 8 years. the Michigan Jersey Cattle club , the Michigan State Dairyman's association , Adrian Grange , and other agricultural societies. He was president of the Allegan County Sunday School Association and was an ordained minister.
