Biographical Sketch:
Of Swiss heritage. Moved to Detroit with his family in 1849. After leaving school, he worked as a hat, cap and fur store until 1877. He was appointed chief clerk in the office of the receiver of taxes that year. In 1885, he was appointed a member of the board of city assessors by Mayor S. B. Grummond, for a term of 3 years, at the close of which he was appointed for a second full term by Mayor John Pridgeon, Jr., serving altogether 6 years on the board of assessors. After 1891, he was engaged in insurance and real estate.

Notable Facts:
His seat was contested by Mr. Richert but his election was confirmed by the senate after an official recount of the votes.
