Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish and Irish ancestry. Son of Charles and Margurette [or Margaret E.](Morris) Callaghan. For 15 years was engaged in farming and fruit growing, and for 20 years in the hardware business, was president of the Osceola County board of commerce and the Mackinaw Trail Association. Postmaster in Reed City, 1901. Member of Osceola Court Independent Order of Foresters (appointed high messenger of the court in 1892), Osceola Lodge Knights of Pythias, Maccabees, Modern Woodmen of America, Royal Circle, Mystic Circle, and possible other groups. 1896 elected vice-high chief ranger at Lansing. 1897 elected high chief ranger at Port Huron. President of the Young Men's Republican Club of Reed City, MI. Secretary of the Osceola County Republican Committee.
Notable Facts:
Manual 1929, Pg. 687 states he was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Pleaded guilty in 1944 to accepting bribes, and testified against other legislators. Resigned from office.
