Son of Maurice J. and Myrtle P. (Cassidy) Smit. Eldest of 7 children. Began his career as and engineerng inspector on road construction in Ionia, MI, working for Ayres, Lewis, Norris and May. As an Army PFC he taught radar operations at Fort Sill, OK's artillery school, 1951-53. Served on the Ann Arbor Member Zoning Board of Appeals and Gov. Romney's Task Force on Water Rights, Use and Pollution Control.Member of the Kiwanas
