Biographical Sketch:
Orphaned at age 13. He moved to LaSalle, IL at 15 to live with a brother. There he worked the farm summers and attended school in the winter. He returned to Ohio at 17. Taught school in Illinois, 1857-58. Gold miner in California, 1859-61. Enlisted in 102nd Ohio Infantry Regiment, 8/8/1862. Served as assistant surgeon throughout enlistment. He moved to Eaton Rapids, MI in march 1866. He worked toward his medical degree after the war, receiving a degree in 1871 from University of Wooster. Served as president of Eaton and Barry Counties Medical Society. Served as Eaton Rapids village president and mayor; member of the village school board. He was company surgeon for the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railroad, as well as, for the Michigan Central Railroad.
