Enlisted in Company H, Michigan 30th Infantry Regiment, 12/3/1864. Promoted to Full Corporal, 1/9/1865. Established Montcalm Herald newspaper in Stanton, 1867. Sold Montcalm Herald and purchased Newaygo Republican newspaper, 1/1/1869. Served as township supervisor, village president of Newaygo, justice of the peace and chairman of Newaygo County board of supervisors. Admitted to the bar, 1/1892. Member, Michigan Republican Central committee. Chairman and secretary, Newaygo County Republican committee. Delegate to Michigan state constitutional convention 25th District, 1907-08. Alternate delegate to Republican National Convention from Michigan, 1908.
