Son of Dr. John and Elenore McClelland. Admitted to the bar Chambersburg, PA, 1831 or 1832. He practiced law in Pittsburg for about a year and moved to Monroe, MI 1833; mayor of Monroe, Mich., 1841; member of the board of regents of the U.niversity of Michigan at Ann Arbor, 1837 and 1850
